The history of Amphion-les-Bains

Amphion first began to develop in the 17^th and 19^th centuries when the village was a spa resort renowned for its alkaline and sulphur springs as well as its hotels. Gradually superseded by its prestigious neighbour Evian, Amphion focused its growth on the plains where a commercial and industrial zone was established in the 20^th century. The town has been built up around this new hub. The town council is now looking to enhance its coastal area with the recent emergence of a port village and discussions on the extension of the marina.

Amphion-les-Bains: a residential coastal area

The plain of Amphion is separated into two areas: to the South is the extensive commercial zone, which continues to grow with the arrival of new companies. And to the North is the residential zone, built up around the lakeside. Most of the housing is composed of villas built during the second half of the 20^th century in a quiet neighbourhood near to the beaches on Lake Geneva and its wooded parks with their imposing cedars and lime trees. To the West, the Delta de la Dranse National Nature Reserve provides a peaceful place for walks.

All the trimmings

The plain of Amphion is also home to tremendous vitality. The Cité de l'eau – a sports complex with a covered pool, gym and covered tennis courts - is set at the heart of the area, in addition to various public facilities (school, post office). There’s no shortage of activities on offer by the lake: walks, fishing, relaxing in the shade of the trees, bathing, etc. A number of waterfront restaurants also serve a range of dishes including fresh fish from the lake. Furthermore, Amphion is located equidistant from Evian and Thonon, two towns home to a myriad of services and activities.
